Uncertainties in the Projected Patterns of Wave-Driven Longshore Sediment Transport Along a Non-straight Coastline

چکیده

This study quantifies the uncertainties in projected changes potential longshore sediment transport (LST) rates along a non-straight coastline. Four main sources of uncertainty, including choice emission scenarios, Global Circulation Model-driven offshore wave datasets (GCM-Ws), LST models, and their non-linear interactions were addressed through two ensemble modelling frameworks. The first consisted forcing conditions without any bias correction (i.e., parameters extracted from eight GCM-Ws for baseline period 1979–2005, future 2081–2100 under scenarios), hybrid transformation method, models four bulk formulae, process-based models). differentiating factor second was application to GCM-Ws, using hindcast dataset as reference. All members weighted according performance reproduce reference patterns period. Additionally, total uncertainty projections decomposed into ANOVA method. Finally, robustness checked. Comparison obtained ensembles indicated that could relatively reduce ranges projections. On annual scale, contribution about 10–20, 35–50, 5–15, 30–35%, respectively. Overall, means reported decrease net mean (less than 10% RCP 4.5, 10–20% 8.5). However, no robust on seasonal scales found, questioning ultimate decision being made changes.

Uncertainties in Evaluation of the Sediment Transport Rates in Typical Coarse-Bed Rivers in Iran

Flow and sediment transport processes are different and more complex in coarse-bed rivers than in sand-bed rivers. The main goal of the present study is to evaluate different modes of sediment transport using different hydrometric and hydraulic methods, and to address the major uncertainties. Four river reaches were selected as representatives of coarse-bed rivers in the Northwest of Iran. A se...

Longshore Sediment Transport Rate Measured by Short-term Impoundment

The total longshore sediment transport rate in the surf zone was measured at a temporary groin installed at Indian Rocks Beach, west central Florida. Approximate mass balance between updrift accumulation and downdrift erosion, which served as an indicator of reliability, was obtained in four of the six runs, which were subjected to further analysis. Magnitudes of three of the four transport rat...

Influence of Grain Size on Sediment Transport Rates with Emphasis on the Total Longshore Rate

This Coastal and Hydraulic Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) summarizes the state of understanding of the influence of grain size on surf zone sediment transport and is a companion to Smith et al. (2004). This CHETN discusses details of bed-load and suspended load transport, and the classical bed-load regime is shown to encompass two distinct modes of transport. Four LST models with varying le...
